CONTRACT PRICE:
$14.9 Million
The project entailed the installation of a 66-inch steel water transmission pipeline for the Kargnondi Water Authority, stretching from the intersection of Bricker Road and Fisher Road to the KWA Intermediate Pump Station at Fisher Road and Martin Road in Genesee County Michigan. Major project components included:
1. The installation of approximately 66,262 linear feet of welded in place steel water transmission pipe.
2. The installation of two tunnels under Genesee County roadways.
3. The installation of three 60-inch gate valves, fourteen blow-offs and eight air release assemblies.
4. Removal and Replacement of five box culverts, two of which were 24’ by 10’.
5. Over 10 acres of wetland restoration for the pipeline installed in the upland areas outside of the roadway.
6. The installation of a complete cathodic protection system.
The pipeline was installed via open cut at depths of 14 to 17 feet and welded in place along roadways as well as through farmlands and wetlands. Due to the installation of the pipe in farmlands and wetlands, careful planning with the local farmers, property owners and EGLE was required of Ric-Man during the construction work. The pipeline installation timeline had to be planned in a way to minimize crop disturbances and careful removal and replacement of soils had to be performed during excavation to ensure the protection of the wetlands. Furthermore, in order to mitigate any additional crop damage, business disruptions, or wetland damage, the right of way area for work activities was limited to 40 feet wide or less in some areas. Furthermore, in order to mitigate damage to Fisher Road, the Owner limited the work area width to 40 feet or less as well. The project also included the removal of restoration of roadway in the jurisdiction of two different road commissions, St. Clair County and Sanilac County. This dual oversight required a significant effort on Ric-Man’s part in communication, outreach and planning with the local authorities to ensure proper handling of traffic control and road restoration.
